Ants GroupOur youngest campers participate in a shortened day which introduces them to the High Meadows environment and allows them to experience camp in a closely supervised and nurturing program. Children who will be entering preschool and who will be four years old by the September following camp may participate in this program. Rising Kindergartners also have the option of attending this shortened day program. Ants campers are expected to be able to use bathroom facilities independently.

Home-base for Ants is the High Meadows preschool facility, which includes a fenced playground and child-friendly fixtures and furnishings.

Arts & Crafts - Ants do crafts within their unit under the direction of their Unit Leader. They are age appropriate activities that inspire play, imagination, and physicality. The materials vary and campers are encouraged to try new things, like paint with leaves or feathers.

Lunch - Campers should bring a non-perishable lunch each day in a reusable container. High Meadows encourages campers to bring healthy lunches that generate as little waste as possible. Campers are able to recycle #1 and #2 plastics, aluminum containers (such as fruit cups) and some paper products. A compost container is also available for some food scraps. Campers are not allowed to bring glass containers or soda cans to camp.

Nature – Campers learn to move through their environment and be aware of their surroundings. They participate in directed observation of all of our High Meadows animals; livestock, insects, and wild animals. They will experience native plant life of High Meadows and build confidence in nature by handling the animals on campus.

Pony Rides – Campers get to meet our three ponies on a personal level by riding and grooming them. Riding helps children to develop balance and coordination. Campers are taught good riding posture, the proper way to mount and dismount the pony and how to behave around them.

Swimming - All campers visit the pool every day, weather and conditions permitting. The pool is staffed by a team of certified lifeguards and trained lookouts. Ants campers are introduced to the pool, learn to feel safe and comfortable in our two-foot area and begin to acquire some water skills. Jewelry (including earrings), goggles, fins, and flotation devices are not permitted in the pool. Our pool is sanitized through a salt-water system, with chlorine if needed. The result is comfortable, clean water that does not irritate the skin or eyes, and will not turn hair green.
